What is Laser Soldering?
In our studio we use a state-of-the-art laser welding system with an extremely precise focal point. While traditional soldering methods can often cause unnecessary damage to gemstones, laser soldering avoids damage to surrounding areas and creates a stronger bond than a typical jeweler’s torch. The result is a clean repair of superior quality.
What is Prong Retipping?
When a stone’s setting begins to flatten out, retipping is necessary. This process involves putting new tips on the prongs so that they can securely hold your gemstone. We accomplish this through laser soldering.
Please be aware that prong retipping is never as strong as the original prong, due to the addition of new tips. It is important to keep a close eye on your jewelry pieces, regularly checking for any loose stones. We recommend having retipped settings examined by a professional every six months.
